What is ground coriander?

The ground coriander It is made from the dried seeds of the coriander plant. Although it originates from the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East, it now grows in many parts of the world, including India, Morocco and South America. Once harvested, we dry and finely grind the seeds to obtain this smooth, lemony-scented powder that we offer you at Madras Épices.

Is ground coriander the same as coriander leaf?

Good question! Coriander leaves and ground coriander certainly come from the same plant, but they absolutely don't taste the same. The fresh leaves have an intense, herbaceous flavour that divides cooks. In contrast, the ground seeds offer much milder, citrusy, and slightly spicy notes. So, just because you don't like fresh coriander doesn't mean you won't like ground coriander!

What does ground coriander taste like?

Ground coriander reveals a subtle and balanced taste. More precisely, its aromas are mild, slightly citrusy, with a spicy hint reminiscent of orange zest and a light earthy note. Unlike the leaves, its flavour brings a discreet warmth and rounds out other flavours without ever dominating a dish. In short, it’s a background spice: it adds depth without saturating.
