Turmeric, a sacred root throughout the ages
Turmeric has held an important place in South Asian traditions for a very long time. Although it has been cultivated in India for over 4,000 years, ancient Indian texts already mention it as a symbol of prosperity and purity. Thus, it is used in religious festivals, weddings, and traditional body care. In China, doctors have used it since the 7th century, while Greek and Roman doctors describe it in their books.
Consequently, it arrived in Europe via the major spice trade routes, initially as a dye for fabrics and food, before entering traditional medicine. Today, turmeric remains a spice at the crossroads of ancestral knowledge, modern research, and contemporary cuisine.
